Ever noticed that pizza chains are disappearing and it seems like more and more local pizza restaurants are showing up around the Triangle? The delivery market may still belong to the chain but great eat-in pizza is local. We tried out the “new to me” Sauced Pizza on Glennwood Avenue tonight and much like our recent adventure to Martin Street Pizza I was pleased with the outcome. I am always happy when I can order Pizza by the slice and while the whole pizza combos sounded great we opted for a couple of slices and wings tonight. Not that the pizza was good but the wings were excellent – they were big enough that the “Big Azz” moniker applied (but not a full size wing) breaded and fried (I assume).
The pizza was good with a NY Style crust and sweet but not too sweet sauce that was flavorful. I look forward to going back and trying one of the specialty pizzas – the Wolfpack sounded good and I might try the General Lee but the banana peppers would have to come off my slice. The only things I would change is – maybe going on a different night – it was loud and started to get a little crowded and definitely would have paid closer attention to the menu while I was in the restaurant – it appears the desserts are shipped in from none other than Hayes Barton Cafe. Yes – had I seen this before I got home I would have ordered dessert. No worries – I’ll be back. And – no picture. It was too dark for the camera phone.
Update: Got the logo pic from someone that stopped by – click here for more pictures of Sauced.
