Rockets, Dinosaurs, Trains, Butterflies and Scat?

At the North Carolina Museum of Life & Science in Durham (Commonly called the Durham Museum of Life & Science not to be confused with the North Carolina Museum of Natural History in Raleigh) we learned among other things that Biologists Study Scat. I always wondered what they did exactly and now I know. You can say a lot of things about a biologist but never say they don’t know $#!t. It will be an awkward conversation and they will likely prove you wrong.

So with that horrible intro out of the way – let’s get things started.  We went to the museum to celebrate one of Cara’s co-workers son’s birthdays. That’s right – you saw the tweet – party like a 3-year-old. Well – kids these days do it right. I don’t think there is a McDonald’s or Pizza Hut out there that could beat this. (Maybe Travis’ Care Bear Birthday Party at Pizza Hut – maybe.)  Anyway – the museum was awesome and really only lost points for being in Durham. Fortunately none of the bad things that supposedly happen when you go to Durham didn’t. (No shootings, lootings, thefts or gang violence.)

If you go be prepared for a crowd. This is a kid friendly museum that is very hands on – this means lots of kids, lots of strollers and some crying. They have a reasonable collection of space materials for a small museum and while NASA it wasn’t – it wasn’t bad either.  The Dinosaur trail is interesting and while the train exhibit was interesting it was less about the trains and more about the all-natural items they created to go with the trains. The live animals stole the show with the exception of the bears which may have been hibernating (we didn’t see them).
