Post Slow Down? Blame the following…

win7droidpatsI know – since Snow Watch III the posting has slowed down a good bit.  That is typically a result of things going at light speed in other areas and this time is no different.  I’ve been installing Windows 7 on all my machines (work and home) and am happy to report that I like it.  It is a huge improvement from Vista and even makes my XP machine run better than it was.  A couple of small things aren’t working as a result of the upgrade but they were near useless additions anyway (my TV tuner card isn’t working properly).

I upgraded the phone against the advice of almost everyone I know to an Android instead of an iPhone.  So far it is great – I’ve spent every waking hour since I got it figuring out new and different things to do with it.  From what I can tell it does everything I would want an iPhone to do and it came with a shockingly smaller price tag both for the device and the service.  I’ll keep you posted on whether or not I still feel strongly about it after the new wears off.  I’m interested in how you use your smart phone – I am working on making this site “Touch” compatible.  It should work for iPhone and Droid users now – trying to figure out how to make it work for Blackberry users as well.

Finally – I am in the planning stages for what might be the most awesome St. Patrick’s Day float EVER.  I know last year’s Cheers float will be hard to beat but Space Ireland and the Shamrocket are extremely promising.  I’ll hopefully be posting new images as they become available of the work.  Shout out to BobG for making a historic find and getting a lot of what will become the structure of the rocket.  This one is not going to be one to miss.  More posts coming soon – including an official write-up on Windows 7 and the droid.  Stay tuned.

    Krispy Kreme Challenge 2010

KKCAfter close to a month of online debate, a poll questioning BobG’s dedication to the cause and more trash talk than a middle school locker room the big day arrived.  A moment of full disclosure before we continue: I have run this race before.  I was able to finish a total of five doughnuts and it was disgusting.  I don’t know that I have eaten more than a single doughnut since.  So despite what you may read here I do have a great deal of respect for everyone that participated in the race.  It is not easy – if you think it is go grab a box of doughnuts and start eating.  Prior to doing it I thought the run was the hard part – after last year I know better.

All that being said congrats to all the runners.  Slide show with commentary after the jump so open the first picture and proceed to see the time line of events. I know we will have years of debate over BobG’s performance and the over 28 minutes it took him to eat 11.75 doughnuts.  We will also stand in awe of Eric’s friend Joey who ate a box of doughnuts in such a fashion that the cops almost arrested him for assault. (By my count Joey was done in around 5 minutes – that is under 30 seconds per doughnut.)

I know BobG isn’t pleased with his performance and will likely put such witty comebacks as “Those who stand and watch have nothing to say” on this post too. Well – I’ve see the climb and I’ve seen the pictures from the top.  I’ve got no reason to think I want to climb that mountain.  Congrats to him though on once again getting close – maybe you’ll have better luck next year or at least pick up that last quarter of a doughnut you left on the side of the road.

How many doughuts will BobG eat in the KKC?

Tomorrow is the Krispy Kreme Challenge here in Raleigh -yes the one you’ve heard about and seen in ESPN.  You run approximately two miles from the belltower at NCSU to the Krispy Kreme on Peace Street, eat a dozen doughnuts and run back.  The challenge?  To finish in under and hour and with the doughnuts in your stomach and not on the side of the road.  Several of us did it last year and none of us made it past five doughnuts.  Acceptable behavior if you are a Casual Runner but not if you are a Challenger.  BobG ran this race last year and finished three doughnuts as a Casual Runner – this year he is swinging for the fences signing up as a Challenger and agreeing to finish the dozen.

The question isn’t whether or not Bob can run the distance – we all know he is more than capable of having an excellent running time.  The question is how many doughnuts will put him into submission?  Make you pick to the right and we’ll have video of his success or failure shortly after the race is completed.

We of course wish him the best of luck we just don’t think he can do four times the doughnuts he did last year.

This is not drawn to scale and is on the back of a Jimmy John’s napkin that says WIPE! I don’t know why but we seem to have a lot of these around the office. Post lunch I had divine inspiration on the design of this year’s float – SPACE IRELAND. For the curious among you – no – I did not have Jimmy John’s for lunch. All the more reason the napkin art was so inspired. Don’t worry if you aren’t listed on the float yet – this is just a rough draft.

Email me your float art and I will post it and we can start to make some decisions on how this debacle grand spectacle should go down.  And yes – I did spill a little coffee on it. New – another image after the jump for absolutely no good reason at all.
