After close to a month of online debate, a poll questioning BobG’s dedication to the cause and more trash talk than a middle school locker room the big day arrived. A moment of full disclosure before we continue: I have run this race before. I was able to finish a total of five doughnuts and it was disgusting. I don’t know that I have eaten more than a single doughnut since. So despite what you may read here I do have a great deal of respect for everyone that participated in the race. It is not easy – if you think it is go grab a box of doughnuts and start eating. Prior to doing it I thought the run was the hard part – after last year I know better.
All that being said congrats to all the runners. Slide show with commentary after the jump so open the first picture and proceed to see the time line of events. I know we will have years of debate over BobG’s performance and the over 28 minutes it took him to eat 11.75 doughnuts. We will also stand in awe of Eric’s friend Joey who ate a box of doughnuts in such a fashion that the cops almost arrested him for assault. (By my count Joey was done in around 5 minutes – that is under 30 seconds per doughnut.)
I know BobG isn’t pleased with his performance and will likely put such witty comebacks as “Those who stand and watch have nothing to say” on this post too. Well – I’ve see the climb and I’ve seen the pictures from the top. I’ve got no reason to think I want to climb that mountain. Congrats to him though on once again getting close – maybe you’ll have better luck next year or at least pick up that last quarter of a doughnut you left on the side of the road.
Tomorrow is the Krispy Kreme Challenge here in Raleigh -yes the one you’ve heard about and seen in ESPN. You run approximately two miles from the belltower at NCSU to the Krispy Kreme on Peace Street, eat a dozen doughnuts and run back. The challenge? To finish in under and hour and with the doughnuts in your stomach and not on the side of the road. Several of us did it last year and none of us made it past five doughnuts. Acceptable behavior if you are a Casual Runner but not if you are a Challenger. BobG ran this race last year and finished three doughnuts as a Casual Runner – this year he is swinging for the fences signing up as a Challenger and agreeing to finish the dozen.
The question isn’t whether or not Bob can run the distance – we all know he is more than capable of having an excellent running time. The question is how many doughnuts will put him into submission? Make you pick to the right and we’ll have video of his success or failure shortly after the race is completed.
We of course wish him the best of luck we just don’t think he can do four times the doughnuts he did last year.
Recently I have become enamored with Trader Joe’s. Here are my top 10 T.J. favs.
Hope you enjoy these good eats!
Just like mom used to make!
I hate the time change – I never know when to eat lunch. 11:00AM seems early – but by noon I am pretty hungry. I know there are real problems in the world. This one is mine right now.
Why did I post the video above? Obviously my hunger made me watch it after it came in on my RSS feed from LifeHacker (which as many of you know I am a fan of). Here is the original post from Food Wishes. This is a cool site that I am going to subscribe to their feed for as well because Pastrami Chicken Wings with Russian Dressing? I want to hear more about that. It would be really cool if they would send me a plate – I mean now that I know how to eat them I think it would be a huge success. As far as the technique of eating the wings… I am planning to try that soon. It actually looks like something that will work. I’ll let you know. Ok – time for lunch.
