I almost forgot until BobG posted something about it on his Facebook status that the world is in fact supposed to end again this Friday. Yes – it is a horrible injustice to make us miss the weekend. Why can’t the world ever end on a Monday and why is it always the 21st of the month? Is rent due the next day or something? We’ve been tracking these claims for over a year ever since the billboards went up before Christmas. And we waited patiently for the end this past May and nothing happened.
It’s almost reached the point that I don’t even want to go to an Armageddon party. That’s a lie – I think an Armageddon party where people are really losing it because they think the world is going to end would be pretty awesome. Do what you want – who cares – the world is about to end! Reckless abandon on center stage? Maybe that is what the Occupy Wall Street protests are really about.
Anyway – if we survive this Friday I might start a countdown to the next 21st of importance 12-21-2012 the end of the Mayan Calendar. If you plan on hosting a Armageddon party and/or plan to do anything really on Friday night let me know. Depending on my Saturday plans it may not be a late night but I might stop by for a few to see how this whole “world is ending” partying looks like.
(The image to the right is the first thing that came up in Google images when I looked for end of the world.)
Any time I hear the words “turkey drop” my mind immediately hears the theme from the television classic WKRP in Cincinnati. Why? Watch this and yours will too.
So why did this come up this time? Thank you Yellville, Arkansas.
Turns out turkeys don’t fly.
The Baxter Bulletin reports that attendees at the Turkey Trot festival in Yellville were disappointed when no turkeys were dropped from planes on Friday or Saturday.
The turkey drop is a mainstay of the event, though organizers don’t sanction it. Supporters say the turkeys can fly just enough to descend safely, but animal-rights advocates call it cruel.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals posted a $5,000 bounty for any information leading to an arrest. And the Federal Aviation Administration said any pilots dropping turkeys could lose their licenses.
People at the festival wore “I am the Phantom Pilot” T-shirts, and at least one sign offered a $10,000 reward for the arrest of the PETA employee who came up with the $5,000 bounty. [SOURCE]
So again – thanks to the folks out in Yellville for making me stop this morning and look up the WKRP Turkey Drop YouTube video. This in addition to coffee made my Monday morning a little more bearable.
So we’ve brought you geeky ex-drama types dressed up and lip-syncing posts before. And we’ve brought you comic convention posts before. I know all of this doesn’t exactly help us prove we aren’t as geeky as we look. Then again – we are pretty geeky all things considered. Anyway – more of the same. This one is from DragonCon in Atlanta, GA and no we weren’t there in person but it looks like a pretty cool event.
Maybe NOSVC should get a group together and go to one of these larger events to document it. I know a lot of it I wouldn’t be interested in but the costumes I would – I know how hard it is to look like a viking (which should be easy).
Too bad I don’t have any video savvy friends that could put together an awesome video like this one.
So I found this website and I debated whether I just show it to BobG or make a funny picture of him and post it. You can see what I decided.
For those of you unaware of Techsideline (and why would you be unless you are a Virginia Tech fan) our friend BobG has a bit of a reputation for answering posts with a simple nope. This has happened to the point that they have coded <bobg></bobg> as nope.
So anyway – Bob – enjoy your nope.
Feel free to share it with Techsideline I’m sure they will make good use of it.
But doesn’t that end badly?
If I remember correctly – yes – it does end badly.
Thanks to BobG for the find. It downloads a little slow so give it time.
