The Hajj (Arabic: “pilgrimage”) is the pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the largest pilgrimage in the world, and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah.

Probably not something you ever expected to see but YouTube is airing it live. For some reason this is bizarrely fascinating to me. No – this isn’t a statement one way or the other on religion or technology. Sorry – we don’t really have much more depth around here than to occasionally complain about politics.

    Writing Papers in School
Sadly this might be the skill that has kept me successfully employed longer than all others involved in writing a paper.

Here is a new video from our friends in Holly Springs, NC show casing a new song for their Halloween Light Show. I’ve been in email contact with the awesome folks doing this and got a little background info on the project -

We were just doing this because I did a Christmas one last year and my 7 year old said Halloween was his favorite holiday and he asked if it we could do one for Halloween.  To answer your questions, all lights are connected to specific controllers that receive commands from a PC that I program.  The program can break songs down to as little as a 20th of a second.  The hardware setup was a lot more intensive then expected but hopefully now that my faces are done it will be much easier next year.   Faces took 3-4 days each at 4-5 hours a night. Other stuff I had up in 2 weekends.  The programming was the real challenge I thought I would do 5 songs but the mouth movements took much longer than anticipated.  Presently I have only 2 songs running but am trying to finish Thriller for Saturday.  Songs take 50-60 hours to program.

    In a word – wow.

Located on Linden Ridge Dr. in Oak Hall subdivision in Holly Springs NC. Show will run till 11pm on Halloween. If your in the area put on 93.5FM and let the lights sing you a song!

And yes – I had hoped to get out there last night and look at the “1.2 miles of extension cords” but wasn’t extremely mobile after the Monster Dash. I really like the sound of next year on a project like this.  I hope to be done with the trick or treaters in enough time to stop by and see it in person. If you do and take pictures or video send them in to us and we’ll post them.

dsc_0586 North Carolina is definitely Hurricane Country (I’ve seen banners that say this) but we all know the destruction that a tornado can bringTornado Alley is the first movie in the NC Museum of Natural Science’s new 3D theater and to celebrate they had the stars of the movie and Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers visit to celebrate. So while many people were excited about meeting the stars of the show we were a little more excited about seeing the Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV) 2 that drives into the tornado and looks like a batmobile on steroids.

Built on a Dodge Ram 3500 platform, and surrounded by bullet-resistant windows and an armored steel shell, the 7-ton TIV2 has a third axle for six-wheel-drive capability, a modified 6.7-liter turbo-diesel engine, a 92-gallon fuel tank and a top speed of more than 100 mph. [SOURCE]

It was really cool getting to see the TIV2 and not at all disappointing to learn when I was researching for this article that it is already an antique. (Meet the DOMINATOR – all caps because it is that badass.)

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie and the new 3D theater which we opted not to do since it will be running until November 24th. As always – more pictures after the jump. All pictures taken by Cara DMc except for the one the right.
