dsc_1399 From the better late than never category comes this year’s Lego Christmas Village which might technically be last year’s but that is only so 2012 can have a new village.

The delay was partial procrastination and partial waiting for Cara’s Christmas present (a flash for the big camera). She took most of the pictures after the jump with the exception being the last five (she put her toy down and I played with it for a minute).  If either one of us improves on using the flash before the village gets dismantled I will post again. From what I have seen so far it may take a while for us to get there. Although I can’t complain – it does pretty good right out of the box.

The village this year includes the Star Wars Nativity, a train (yes – we light rail before certain cities I know), all the recent seasonal sets and a first look at the Lego Superheroes collection starring Wonder Woman, Superman, Bat Man, Cat Woman and Lex Luthor. This year the Nativity scene grew into a larger part of the display with several building representing the city of Bethlehem. This village also showcases a RV park and of course Santa showering.

We’ve come to the end of another Lego Advent Calendar with the appearance of Santa Yoda Claus and that means Christmas Eve is finally here.

Hope everyone has enjoyed this year’s Lego Advent Calendar. I’ll have pictures up of the whole group for Christmas tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great holiday and remember Yoda Claus coming to town is he.

And on the next to last day we finally get something that is in the holiday spirit – a Christmas Tree. I know you’ve likely been reading this all month and wondering what does Star Wars have to do with Christmas? To answer that question we have to go back to 1978…

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a 1978 TV movie set in the Star Wars galaxy. The main storyline of the film transpires on the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk. Chewbacca and Han Solo visit the planet to celebrate the Wookiee holiday Life Day with his family, which includes his wife Malla, his son Lumpy and his father Itchy. As Chewbacca and Han are known Rebel agents, they are pursued by the Galactic Empire, who in the process invade Chewbacca’s household. The plot is strung together by a series of musical numbers, celebrity appearances, and other variety-show acts, including songs and comedy routines by such 1970s celebrities as Jefferson Starship, Diahann Carroll, Art Carney, Harvey Korman, and Beatrice Arthur. I’ll let you watch and form your own opinions. Yes – that is Maude (Bea Arthur). If you watch long enough to see her – you win.

On the 22nd day of the Advent Calendar we got an A-wing (or RZ-1 A-wing interceptor) to go with our X and Y wings and you can see much like the others this one resembles the letter A if you look at it top down. I won’t go into the issues of English/Latin Alphabet again but you know where I stand on it.

The RZ-1 A-wing interceptor was a starfighter designed by the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War. One of the fastest mass-produced interceptors in the known galaxy, the A-wing was even faster than the Imperial’s TIE Interceptor. [SOURCE]

This was the “sports car” of the starfighter world. It was never a favorite but much like Chewbacca I imagine this ship landed in a lot of people’s top five or at least their top ten. Only two days left.

Twas four days before Christmas and hush fell on the crowd. Could it be? Why yes it is. The most famous starship in the galaxy. (He said twas.)

The Millennium Falcon became famous as the personal smuggling starship of Han Solo and Chewbacca. It began life as a standard Corellian Engineering Corporation YT-1300 stock light freighter. Eventually it was won by Solo from Lando Calrissian in the Cloud City Sabacc Tournament. Throughout its operational lifetime, the ship endured many adventures and upgrades which led to its dilapidated exterior appearance. Under both Calrissian and Solo, it played a vital role in the Galactic Civil War and later conflicts. [SOURCE]

This is my favorite ship in Star Wars – I’m glad it was in the Advent Calendar and plan on putting it right in line with my other two when Christmas is over.
