We stopped in rural South Carolina at a gas station and saw the sign to the right. On close inspection it appears to be an official SC DHEC (Department of Health and Environmental Control) sign. I’m sure there were several ESL options – this one seems a little unique at least to me.
I don’t know which Asian looking language this is but I do know it seemed extremely out of place. We were about 20 minutes off of I-95 (a result of traffic) and saying this area was backwoods would have meant they had woods. It was the first place we saw after the only restaurant in town aptly named the “Burger Chick” – wonder what they serve.
What is the moral of this story? The Asian population in rural South Carolina will have clean hands. No – probably that I had my camera with me in the bathroom. Don’t judge – it resulted in this awesome find.
Saw this Rolls Royce today and decided to snap a quick picture. My phone is crap and it didn’t work – imagine that. (Thanks Sprint!) Anyway – as you can see Cara took one for me and sent it over. Probably not a completely rare sight in Raleigh but definitely not one I am used to.
And no – I have no idea what year or model this Rolls was. I’ve never paid more attention to them than to notice the little statue on the front.
In case I continue my laziness and don’t post again for a while I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.
The Raleigh Christmas Parade is the “largest parade between Washington, DC and Atlanta” which sounds impressive until you realize we are beating out Charlotte for that title and everyone knows Raleigh > Charlotte so… no surprise. It is a great parade highlighted this year by a giant inflatable Muppet, Star Wars Carolina Garrison, some guy from some karaoke television show, naked guy, and much more – even Santa Claus.
I almost forgot to mention the GIANT INFLATABLE TOILET sponsored by the City of Raleigh’s Public Works. Want to know why your water rates are going up? Promotion. We are promoting your use of the toilet. No more outhouses. Wait? We paid for this. Unreal.
Overall it is a great parade and something that really makes the city look good. The picture to the right is courtesy our own BobG – more after that are completely my fault. BTW – naked guy did put a shirt on before the parade was over. Pants? We just don’t know.
At the North Carolina Museum of Life & Science in Durham (Commonly called the Durham Museum of Life & Science not to be confused with the North Carolina Museum of Natural History in Raleigh) we learned among other things that Biologists Study Scat. I always wondered what they did exactly and now I know. You can say a lot of things about a biologist but never say they don’t know $#!t. It will be an awkward conversation and they will likely prove you wrong.
So with that horrible intro out of the way – let’s get things started. We went to the museum to celebrate one of Cara’s co-workers son’s birthdays. That’s right – you saw the tweet – party like a 3-year-old. Well – kids these days do it right. I don’t think there is a McDonald’s or Pizza Hut out there that could beat this. (Maybe Travis’ Care Bear Birthday Party at Pizza Hut – maybe.) Anyway – the museum was awesome and really only lost points for being in Durham. Fortunately none of the bad things that supposedly happen when you go to Durham didn’t. (No shootings, lootings, thefts or gang violence.)
If you go be prepared for a crowd. This is a kid friendly museum that is very hands on – this means lots of kids, lots of strollers and some crying. They have a reasonable collection of space materials for a small museum and while NASA it wasn’t – it wasn’t bad either. The Dinosaur trail is interesting and while the train exhibit was interesting it was less about the trains and more about the all-natural items they created to go with the trains. The live animals stole the show with the exception of the bears which may have been hibernating (we didn’t see them).
More pictures after the jump and if you think I am mailing in today’s post after a 3-day weekend you are absolutely correct.
