    NOSVC.com + Facebook Connect

facebook-connectNOSVC.com has decided to use and highly recommends the Facebook connect API as an alternate means of connecting to our site. What does this mean? Simply put you can engage in account activities on NOSVC without creating an account with the site. This means instant access for anyone with a Facebook account and one less password to remember for anyone returning tot he site on a regular basis.

No – the site can’t see, steal or access the password to your account.  You can read more about the API here but again to simplify this site (NOSVC) simply recognizes and authenticates your Facebook credentials.  You can learn a lot more about what happens behind the scenes here.

Yes – there is some limited interaction between the sites.  This is done with the nosvc.com application in Facebook.   So far the interactions are limited to posts and comments but we are looking at the full scale possibilities of what can be done by both this site and the application in the future.  If you have connected or are planning to connect via Facebook Connect please know you can adjust settings from the application and your local profile on this site.

Why is Facebook Connect a better alternative than creating a new account?  Whether you are using this site or any of the others that have opted to use Facebook Connect we here at NOSVC feel it is a better alternative than creating a new account.  This is because people typically use the same password on multiple sites online.  This means that same password is floating around in multiple hands with multiple instances where it can be compromised.  Facebook Connect lets you keep 1 account and manage all your accounts from a central location.  This cuts down on the number of places a password is used and by default decreases the probability of it being compromised.

Image above is what a Facebook Connect login should look like when accessed from this site or any other using Facebook Connect.
