[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

Another day – another good toy on our countdown to Christmas. Today is an Imperial Shuttle.
The Lambda-class T-4a shuttle was a standard light utility craft in common use throughout the Imperial military as a transport for troops and high-ranking individuals.
Rookie One is giving us a hand displaying the shuttle so you can see the wings extended. This little guy will look great beside the full-size model after Christmas.
It the continued theme of getting a minifig and having a gift appear for them the next day we have a mini X-Wing.
Possessing deflector shields, a hyperdrive, an R2 astromech for repairs and navigation, and a complement of proton torpedoes, the X-wing allowed the Rebellion to launch raids in Imperial space with improved odds of a successful mission.
Let me translate – you want one of these if you have a Death Star to kill. In a word like Samuel L. Jackson “this mofo is bada$$.” Or as Lando Calrissian might say “Drink Colt 45″ – how do you think he bought Cloud City? Pimpin’ ain’t easy. Wait… isn’t this an Advent Calendar? Better clean up my act. There are only 15 days did Santa is here.
If you haven’t read or seen the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo you are missing a really good story. It is a foreign book/film and if you catch it on Netflix you will really enjoy reading the movie (subtitles) which can be a pain but in this particular case wasn’t terrible. So what does any of this have to do with the movie to the right? There is an Americanized version of the movie coming out soon. Why? I’m not the only one that is anti-subtitles obviously. But – that being said I imagine there are other things in the movie that have been Americanized other than the language. I mean – the movie was pretty graphic in parts – do American audiences have the stomach for that? Probably not.
So here is the Funny or Die version of the film that take the premise of Americanizing an additional step or two. So now that we’ve completely toned everything down the viewing public can enjoy it and possibly relate to it.
More good news on the Advent Calendar front and this time it is a Rebel Pilot. I am assuming – based at least on his helmet that he is rookie perhaps Rookie One?
“Rookie One” was the handle of a Human pilot who fought for the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War; it was used to refer to him during his training prior to the Battle of Yavin, but stuck as a nickname later, typically used instead of his actual name.
Wait – you didn’t know every character in Star Wars had an unbelievably extensive background story? Yes – and it gets a little obnoxious. At least we are staying on a really good run of cool presents – hopefully we stay away from any more Clone War nonsense.
