[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

I put this together and found myself asking – WTF? (Why The Face) I had no idea what this was or why it had anything to do with Christmas or even Star Wars. A little of research led me to believe it is in fact a Mecho-chair for Nute Gunray. And that means day three is actually a gift for the day two gift. Glad he didn’t have to wait long.
The devices, generally built by Affodies Crafthouse of Pure Neimoidia, were prohibitively costly and were more of a status symbol than a mode of transportation. They featured two sickle-shaped rear legs that terminated in single-claw feet, and a pair of articulated double-clawed guidance limbs.
So things aren’t getting better in the Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar world. So far Nute Gunray is the grinch and we need a Tie-fighter, X-wing, or Millennium Falcon just to break even.
This year at work I took in a “medium-sized” Christmas tree and asked my co-workers to bring in decorations if they wanted. This is what Chloe brought in – Scary Santa. I am guessing this is not the Santa you want to be naughty around or maybe even nice. In fact I am not 100% convinced this isn’t the inspiration for Rare Exports / 2.
I still haven’t been able to run down a copy of Rare Exports but if I do I plan on having a very special Christmas viewing party. I will likely not invite Scary Santa – I don’t know if I would enjoy the movie with him watching me the entire time.
So I wouldn’t consider myself a fan of Adam Carolla. In fact I often thought of him as annoying. Now I find myself agreeing with him. On what you ask? His opinion on the folks at Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy movement. (Audio here.)
Warning: I put NSFW in the title and gave it the NSFW icon for a reason. Unless your boss is Popeye the Sailorman and obscene language is in the employee handbook you may want to re-think listening to this on your work computer. Then again if you work for Popeye and the health plan is good – let me know if you are hiring.
I think he over-generalizing in his rant but I do agree that a lot of the problem is envy. In anything we do someone wins and someone loses but it is usually temporary. The goal is to make it to another day to win or lose and to win as often as you can. Every loss has a lesson and hopefully if you learn from those lessons you will learn to win. It isn’t fun to lose but it beats the alternative which is not playing period.
So sit on the side of the street and hold your sign. The rest of us may not be winning but we definitely aren’t losers.

For some reason this works pretty well for me. More Buni here.
And maybe not worthy of a whole post – but a definite moment of zen.
Welcome to day 2 of the Advent Calendar countdown and if the Republic Cruiser didn’t get you into the Christmas spirit maybe a Nute Gunray mini-figure will. Or maybe not.
Nute Gunray was a Neimoidian from the planet Neimoidia. Following a stint as Minister for the Trade Federation, he rose in power after the Stark Hyperspace War in 44 BBY, eventually becoming Viceroy of the Trade Federation. In 32 BBY, Gunray participated in the occupation of Naboo to settle a trade dispute that began in the Galactic Senate.
If that doesn’t say Merry Christmas what does? I didn’t expect Ewoks riding reindeer (ok – I did) but this seems like we are off to a slower than usual start. That being said the weekend is coming and we have 22 more gifts to open. Maybe things will get better.
