[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

Saw this awesome picture on StumbleUpon and had to share. UPDATE: You need to watch this too.
Atlantis landed today and when it did the STS program came to a close. If you haven’t yet – please watch this video. All I can say is thank you to NASA, shuttle astronauts, and all the men and women that kept the dream alive and the shuttle flying for the past 30 years. I hope that the next round of dreamers are as ambitious as you have been and the next frontier is approached with the same enthusiasm as this one was.
So where am I am on the day the shuttle program ended? Like a lot of kids I wanted to go to space. I was tricked into brushing my teeth because of it. (Astronauts can’t have fillings – they’ll float out in space.) From as early as I can remember I had Space Lego building sets – I still have every brick. I watched the as Challenger ‘slipped the surly bonds of Earth’ to ‘touch the face of God’ live on TV in the fifth grade. I realized that a mouth without fillings was really lower down on the list than I had assumed and math and science were significantly higher. (That and getting sick on roller coasters may have eliminated me from the NASA talent pool.) I did get to see a launch live – it is something that those of us fortunate enough to experience will always remember and talk about. No – it isn’t the same on television and much like being dead or famous I can’t explain to you exactly why that is unless you’ve been there and experienced it. Fortunately several of my closest friends were there with me. I wish our RV was bigger so more people could have come with us.
And with all of that – I’ll say goodbye.
An engaged couple in Anderson County says a shadowy image that turned up on a receipt from Walmart looks like the face of Jesus.
Jacob Simmons and his fiancee, Gentry Lee Sutherland, said they bought some pictures from Walmart on Sunday, June 12.
The following Wednesday, the couple had just come home from a church service when Simmons spotted the receipt on the floor of Sutherland’s apartment. He says the receipt had changed.
“I was leaving the kitchen and I just looked on the floor, and it was like it was looking at me,” Simmons said. [SOURCE] [VIDEO]
Little do they know that this is not “Jesus” but Golf Cart Jesus. He is coming to quiet the “hooping an a holler’n” from the unclean drunkards that live on the island. Take a close look unbeliever. Take a very close look!
I know right? Ninja please!
Despite a national unemployment rate of 9.2% some cities are moving forward showing job growth, family growth, population growth and attractiveness for settlement. On this list Raleigh, NC is #2.
Many of our top performers are not surprising. No. 1 Austin, Texas, and No. 2 Raleigh, N.C., have it all demographically: high rates of immigration and migration of educated workers and healthy increases in population and number of children. They are also economic superstars, with job-creation records among the best in the nation. [SOURCE]
I know there aren’t any points for second place but we are in the Top 10 and while Charlotte, NC is on the list we’re still 6 positions higher than they are at #8.
