[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

I am still listening to “Irish Pub Favorites” on Pandora and trying to be inspired on a float theme. We are within the 64 day mark before Raleigh’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I joked that Twitter would just be our theme and then realized that might be the BEST IDEA EVER.
A large cardboard and papier-mâché (or paper mache) Fail Whale being hauled by twitter-birds?
Is that awesome or what? Before you say “or what” think about it. Not the dumbest theme we’ve had by a long shot. And we might get some followers for @NOSVC (28 is pretty LAME.)
If you have a better idea put it in the comments. Until then I am going to be working on how to incorporate a smoke machine into this insanity.

My ultimate winners’ guide for the most difficult professional card game, Solitaire. I don’t mess around.
Using terms like “PLOWERHOUSE” and “Think with your Brain – Make it Rain” this video is FULL of great quotes. (Can’t spell? Yeah – that’s me.) Yes – I double checked. This video was not created by BobG. It could have been but it wasn’t. This guy is playing to win money – he always hits the Solitaire tables in Vegas.
Yes – I am aware posting has been slow this week. It happens.
I know a lot of people who read this blog don’t know what SOPA is or why NOSVC would want you to take a second to think about boycotting it. Let’s hit some background and then some simple ways to avoid supporting a potential law that could be used to limit speech and hurt small companies.
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as H.R. 3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011. The bill expands the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. Now before the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the PROTECT IP Act. [SOURCE]
So what will it do?
The government and corporations will be given expanded powers to block sites.
They can sue search engines to have links to sites removed.
They can cut off funds to websites. They can effectively remove any monetary support to a site. [SOURCE]
Basically speaking it could hurt small sites, bloggers and anyone that doesn’t have the resources to prevent the competition from being seen. Censorship by those that have the resources to make it happen.
What can you do? Stay informed – here is a good place to start and here is another one. Vote in November but vote with your wallet between now and then using this Android App (Or search Android Market for “Boycott SOPA”). Share what you know and speak out.
UPDATE: Another good SOPA/PIPA article - this one is from WordPress.
Or Zaops Ostreum to be exact. Having never fixed oysters at home and largely relied on others to open them for me I had no idea what a Zaops Ostreum or oyster crab was or what I should do with them. My initial thought was is this and the other oysters we just smoked safe to eat. Fortunately a quick trip to Wikipedia and I learned that they are fine and with a little additional research I found that they are prized by some more than the oyster.
WHEN the man from the backwoods sent back his oyster stew as unfit to eat because he found a tiny pink oyster crab in it, ordering a beefsteak with onions in its place, he was puzzled at the boisterous laughter of the waiter, and annoyed when he heard the word “hayseed” in the subsequent conversation between waiter and cook.

So in this case I am the “hayseed” – I had no idea that the crab was safe much less a delicacy. It appears the rest of the world has known for perhaps a very long time. I’ve included a picture of Mr. Zaops Ostreum after the jump. Hopefully you will find this information useful if you decide to shuck or in our case smoke your own oysters.
The oysters (and subsequently the crabs) came from Locals Seafood which delivers fresh from the NC Coast. It was our first time ordering from them but I thought the process was simple, the prices were reasonable and the oysters were excellent. I would recommend them and plan to shop with them again.
So the rumor is this video is actually Harrison Ford watching the Indiana Jones series for the first time. I am not 100% sure I believe it because he appears to like it. We’ll be in touch if any video emerges of him watching Star Wars.
Click the spud to the right to watch Harrison Ford watch Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. And hope that against all odds you don’t break the space time continuum if Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones starts watching you.
Infinite loop or what was really in the Ark of the Covenant? Could be DANGEROUS.
And yes – that was a lot of build up for a video that is basically terrible. I am aware. (Better video here. Courtesy BobG.)
