[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

LEGOPalooza 2011 is going on this weekend at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill. It is sponsored by NCLUG (North Carolina Lego Users Group) and is a free event. They had a lot of interesting and unique displays and Lego compilations. I was particularly impressed with the two very large Star Wars dioramas of Endor and Hoth.
This was a nice event – some repeats from the previous Brick Magic event but that wasn’t terrible. The lights in the room were terrible. It was an unfortunate mix of poor lighting and not enough. The images didn’t come out as well as I would have liked and Cara got several of the better ones that were taken of the large pieces. Maybe this year’s Brick Magic will be better suited for taking pictures. (Put it on your calendar May 7-8, 2011.)
More pictures after the jump…

Paging Eddie! I thought these kids were pretty cool. I watching this on YouTube where they had a broken link to a fund raiser in the UK. (Too bad I would have plugged them here.)
Unfortunately this is one of my least favorite Iron Maiden songs. I would have loved it if they had done Aces High or Run to the Hills. Guess you can’t get everything.
It is Friday so the nonsense posting is in full effect – have something fun to share – email it to me.
I found this pretty amusing but strangely not at all surprising. Actually I find it more surprising that Steve Harvey is hosting Family Feud. I wouldn’t have figured him for wanting to be a game show host. First Drew Carey and now this?
Is this what comedians that can’t overdoes do when they pass their prime. In this economy I guess any job is a good job.
The dragon for the bow of our viking ship is done – at least conceptually. He was assembled from scraps and the initial decoration phase with red and black duct tape has begun. The goal was to have a real looking but not terribly scary piece of bow art that would fit with the viking theme.
This is the concept build – once it is decorated completely it should look like a reasonable rendering of what one would think belongs on the front of a viking ship.
