[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

NASA astronauts Steve Bowen and Alvin Drew are shown performing the STS-133 mission’s first spacewalk as construction and maintenance continue on the International Space Station. During the six-hour, 34-minute spacewalk, Bowen and Drew installed the J612 power extension cable, move a failed ammonia pump module to the External Stowage Platform 2 on the Quest Airlock for return to Earth at a later date, installed a camera wedge on the right hand truss segment, installed extensions to the mobile transporter rail and exposed the Japanese “Message in a Bottle” experiment to space. Series 3 of the Lego Minifigures are here but unfortunately are hiding on the back row. They include a hula dancer, tribal chief, samurai warrior, tennis player, sumo wrestler, baseball player, fisherman, elf, rapper, alien, guy in a gorilla suit, race car driver, mummy, snowboarder, space villain, and pilot. They’ll all get their close-ups soon.

Least I Could Do is one of my daily lunchtime reads and this one just hit me as particularly funny.
I guess because Charlie Sheen is “winning.”
So @NASAKennedy posted this to TwitPic and I thought it was pretty awesome. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge or here for more information.
Check out the site for more cool photos – including a series that has an image from all 39 Discovery missions.
It’s the final countdown and we are well on our way to another St. Patrick’s Day parade. Welcome to awesome – population those fortunate to either ride on or have been part of the legacy that is the floating experience. We hope everyone will come out in two weeks and be a part of the greatness that is the Raleigh St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival.
For those you not familiar with the event it has been around since 1983 – we’ve been a part of the fun since 2006 first as an artmusiclife.com project and going forward into the nosvc.com years. We’ve built with papier-mâché, balloons, spoofed televisions shows, a space program and thrown out 100s of pounds of candy.
The question we hear most – why? The usual response – why not? I can explain it to you but you won’t understand. You have to experience it. You have to get on a cardboard boat that was built in a couple of weekends from scrap, put on a viking helmet and watch as the masses cheer for you. Last year someone described it as “being a rock star.” Fortunately we’ve never been asked to play music – except that one year – with the balloons.
Thanks to everyone that came out today to help with the build (Candace, John, BobG, Courtney, Cara) – we’ll have more to do soon. If you have a favorite memory or float post it in the comments. Until then – Megi vegur rísa upp á móti þér.
