[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

I woke up this morning to celebrations in Egypt because President Mubarak had bent to the will of the people and stepped aside. The military is now in charge and promising to work to install a new government. The question remains – what kind of government but that doesn’t mean it isn’t cause for celebration. We are seeing a largely peaceful transition of power in the Middle East.
I know Democracy comes in many styles and freedom depends on one’s interpretation but I can’t help but feel this is a good sign for a lot of countries that have Dictators posing as “Presidents” and pretend to have elections every few years to keep the international community off their doorsteps.
This morning watching the news I thought about this song and started looking for it to post.
To the Egyptian people – this was the easy part. The hard part is on the way. Hopefully you can put together the pieces and form a real republic cause to be more than a little cliche the times they are a-changing.
We went to the North Carolina Auto Expo last night and while it wasn’t the State Fair of Texas (biggest car show I’ve ever seen) but it wasn’t bad. The assortment was pretty good from Cadillac to Volvo and everything in between – the exception being Honda. For some reason they weren’t there and if I remember correctly were absent from the event in Texas.
It was nice to see a lot of cars at once and compare the interiors. It would have been great to test drive one or two but that wasn’t an option. Pictures after the jump – several of the Chevrolet Volt and the 2011 Corvette.
I actually left last night with a couple of “favorites” and given that my car has 130,000 miles on it that is likely a very good thing.
I’m guessing you thought you had seen the last football post for a while. Guess again.
This is pretty cool definitely worth spending the 5 minutes to watch. I wonder how many takes were involved to get all those shots. Regardless – pretty cool.
I checked Johnny McEntee is listed as a player for UConn – bio here. It doesn’t appear that he is seen much playing time but based on this video I am making him a write-in for next year’s Heisman.
To the right is the longest ad in Super Bowl history priced at $9 million and promoting a car that is said to define luxury using Detroit and Eminem as a benchmark. Can you create luxury for $19-24k? Probably not. By comparison you have the Audi A8 at $88k who also had a Super Bowl commercial last night. They might convince me that they are luxury – not that Kenny G* is any little more ‘luxury’ than a rapper. To be honest the likelihood that I will own either one of the cars is slim to none. (Audi A8 ad after the jump.)
My issue? Should Chrysler be spending $9M on the Super Bowl? I’ve heard the argument before – and yes – I am talking about it today. That might make it worth the money but clearly I am not their target market and won’t be purchasing a Chrysler 200. I’m not likely to ever drive a 200. So this probably isn’t a completely fair statement but wouldn’t $9M be better spent on designing and building a better car? Is the Motor City really back? If so does that mean we can have the money the U.S. taxpayers ‘loaned’ to you back? Any of it? Are we talking about the same Detroit? Maybe this is what you meant.
I hate to point it out but just maybe the Super Bowl ad was in poor taste. Wonder what the people that still live in the Motor City think? All that being said both ads are pretty cool and mopped the floor of just about anything Coke or Budweiser did. The big winner is still The Force (VW).
So a couple of us were playing with our cameras and I caught this shot from the table. I was working on the fuzzy background and trying to get a little bokeh effect in the background without using Photoshop. This image is re-sized but unedited.
It was shot with a focal length of 18mm f/3.5 exposure 1/50th on manual without flash. I think it came out pretty good and our model in the back (Brent) didn’t realize I had him lined up for the shot until after I took it.
