[singlepic id=7291 w=320 h=240 float=right]The premise sounds simple - run from the belltower at NC State to the Krispy Kreme eat a dozen doughnuts and return in under an hour. Approximate distance 5 miles give or take. This isn't the first time we're been to or participated in the challenge and while it is much harder than it sounds - it is likely the most fun race in Raleigh. Congrats to Mark, EdG, Eileen/iLean, BobG 11.75, Zach, Nick, Lisa, Bentley, the rest of the DC crew and anyone else I may have missed that we saw. Special congrats to those runners ...
The Rembrandt in America exhibit at the NC Museum of Art uses the slogan "You know the name. Now find out why." And much in the same way that I had heard of Genghis Khan I could have told you very little about our other museum guest in the city. Namely he may have been French (not true) and he didn't have a Ninja Turtle named after him (this one is true). Rembrandt in America is the largest collection of Rembrandt paintings ever presented in an American exhibition and the first major exhibition to explore in depth the collecting history of ...
[singlepic id=7209 w=320 h=240 float=right]The name Genghis Khan is probably a familiar one even if you don't know who he was exactly. Before going to the exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Science I had a very vague idea of who Genghis Khan was and something of a concept of who he was historically but knew very little about the role he played in history. Genghis Khan is famous as the ruthless Mongol warlord who conquered half the known world. Under his rule, the Mongol Empire grew to be four times the size of the Roman Empire at its largest ...

So on the news today I heard that the latest version of the Mark Twain classic Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will arrive in students hands sans all the colorful vernacular related to race. For the rest of us – they is removing the “n-word” and injun from the book . I remember reading this book a long time ago and I am fairly certain it didn’t teach me those words. Not that I grew up in an environment where they were condoned but they existed in my world – if even by accident – and I knew what they meant. All that being what it is I want to know what the readers here think – should the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn be edited or does it even matter? Remember CL!CK? A year later and we’ve got another one. Very cool.
Dear Mr. Roll,
Would you be interested/available to help sponsor our annual parade float in the 2nd biggest St. Patrick’s Day parade on the East Coast? Each year our float throws Tootsie Rolls to the kids along the parade route, and we estimate last year we threw over 15,000 Tootsie Rolls.
As you can imagine, this adds up in cost. Our total budget is $100 annually. Is there any way to get coupons for Tootsie Rolls? We’d like to toss as many as possible this year, and were hoping you guys could help us out with some free Tootsie Rolls. Think of the children!
We’d be glad to send pictures of previous year’s floats (or just of the Raleigh St Pat’s Parade) for your interest and amusement. It’s all about fun. The crowd gets a kick our of our floats, and the kids LOVE the treats! Please help in any way possible. You can email me back with any help, comments, or just well-wishes. Thank you!
Yours truly,
Ulf O’Brien
For some reason I think the YouTube series Epic Meal Time is awesome. Maybe it is the unique food creations – maybe it is the challenge. Who knows? Either way – new episodes are fun and definitely worth watching until you realize someone is actually going to eat that. But with videos like Fast Food Sushi and Meatball Deathstar it may be hard to watch but it is a lot more difficult to look away. Enjoy!

Two beasts of Norse mythology are set to trouble the skies of northern Europe on Tuesday for the world’s first solar eclipse of 2011.
Ancient Viking legends recount that a giant wolf named Skoll chases the Moon, and its brother Hati pursues the Sun — and if either sinks their teeth into one and holds it back, an eclipse occurs.
Now might not be a bad time to order from here.
Things in particular you may want to look for? This, this or even this. And of course – start stocking up on these.
You may even want to read up – Vikings in Ireland? Yeah – it happened.
