If you know me you know that my favorite meat is pig and my favorite vegetable is BBQ. Yes you read that right - I can have a nice serving of pulled pork and get all my food groups for the day. And after eating at the Pit I am claiming pit master Ed Mitchell as a long lost relative. Sure we don’t look each other but we have one thing in common. I like good BBQ and he makes good BBQ.
Rumor has it that Virgina Gov. Tim Kaine started his 2006 Inaugural Weekend at Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que. After eating there I can’t blame him. Expect a fast food atmosphere with good quality BBQ and down home feel. The perfect way to get away after a long day of walking in either Historic Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. It is easy enough to find but definitely worth looking for.
Bar-B-Que, BBQ, or Barbeque. It doesn’t matter how you say it done right it is the best food on the planet. One of if not the best places in town to get the meat of your choice smoked to perfection is Holy Smokes Bar-B-Que. I have tried just about everything on the menu from the brisket to the pork loin and even the traditional bbq. In my opinion the pork loin and turkey are the best items on the menu. I am not a huge fan of the NC Style Pork BBQ - in fact - I would say avoid it in favor of one of the other meats. The sides are great and the hush puppies are served fresh from the fryer. One thing to note - there are no plates. Everything is served a la carte on butcher’s paper. It’s a great place to go with friends and share. Don’t forget to ask for a couple of pieces of white bread at the register.
I know - it flies in the face of all that is good and right with the world to pretend that you can cook real BBQ outside of a smoker but this recipe is living proof. Simple and not bad for coming from a crock-pot. In fact I prefer this to some of the BBQ restaurants in town that pretend to know what they are doing.
