So I’ve read enough about gOS (a Linux Ubuntu variant) to make me wait the three hours it takes to download the DVD to install it. Yes - I am still a Fedora fan and use it a lot and no this doesn’t mean I am planning on changing the machine I use. I am still in search of the lightweight OS that I can install on older machines that is extremely user friendly. Fedora is a little intimidating for non-geeks so I am interested to see what gOs has to offer. I’ll install it tonight and test it and write a short comparative analysis of it vs. Fedora. I’ll also try to get Cara to use it and see how she likes it for the non-technical opinion. More to come…
The Fedora 9 Linux distribution has a cool feature that I have wanted for a long time - an operating system on a USB flash drive. I’ve always thought it would be great to be able to boot a machine to another OS to check things out and be able to do it quickly and without trading out hard dives. I’ve ordered two 8GB flash drives and plan to use the information here to try it out later this week. I’ll post the updates but based on what I have read so far I imagine it will be a short post. Either way I’ll do it from a machine that has booted to Fedora from a flash drive.
** It works. I am sitting here now working on Linux from a Windows laptop. Awesome stuff.
