I put this together and found myself asking – WTF? (Why The Face) I had no idea what this was or why it had anything to do with Christmas or even Star Wars. A little of research led me to believe it is in fact a Mecho-chair for Nute Gunray. And that means day three is actually a gift for the day two gift. Glad he didn’t have to wait long.
The devices, generally built by Affodies Crafthouse of Pure Neimoidia, were prohibitively costly and were more of a status symbol than a mode of transportation. They featured two sickle-shaped rear legs that terminated in single-claw feet, and a pair of articulated double-clawed guidance limbs.
So things aren’t getting better in the Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar world. So far Nute Gunray is the grinch and we need a Tie-fighter, X-wing, or Millennium Falcon just to break even.
Welcome to day 2 of the Advent Calendar countdown and if the Republic Cruiser didn’t get you into the Christmas spirit maybe a Nute Gunray mini-figure will. Or maybe not.
Nute Gunray was a Neimoidian from the planet Neimoidia. Following a stint as Minister for the Trade Federation, he rose in power after the Stark Hyperspace War in 44 BBY, eventually becoming Viceroy of the Trade Federation. In 32 BBY, Gunray participated in the occupation of Naboo to settle a trade dispute that began in the Galactic Senate.
If that doesn’t say Merry Christmas what does? I didn’t expect Ewoks riding reindeer (ok – I did) but this seems like we are off to a slower than usual start. That being said the weekend is coming and we have 22 more gifts to open. Maybe things will get better.
Hark! Harold the angel sang! Wait Harold was an angel? Welcome to another year of the Lego Advent Calendar (2009 – 2010). This year we are celebrating Star Wars and starting off with a mini Republic Cruiser.
The Consular-class space cruiser was a starship designed and manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation and used by the Galactic Republic to transport Jedi and diplomats to troubled spots across the galaxy.
So if you asked yourself – “What’s geekier than a Lego Advent Calendar?” you have your answer. A Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar. Prepare for the jump to hyper-speed because we have a 23 days to go until Santa Claus!
I’ve been to locally hosted Brick Magic [2010,2011] and Legopalooza [2011] but this is the first official Lego company event I have attended. Probably because it is the first I am aware of the in the area.
So the highlights – lots of interactive hands on building. Something that just didn’t happen at the other events. Many more large – very large structures than I’ve seen in one place. So awesome large builds. A great store – where I bought a couple of things I had planned to buy and a few things I didn’t plan to buy. More bricks than I think I’ve ever seen in one place – ever. Calling it “kidsfest” was exactly the right thing. If you had kids old enough to play with bricks they were going to have fun. There was a lot to do and things going on all over the convention center floor.
Unfortunately – there wasn’t the same feel of Brick Magic or Legopalooza with the level of creativity that some of the displays had. They weren’t bad – there was just nothing there that left you in awe of the individual accomplishment. Everything here had a nice polished corporate feel to it. Not bad just different. In many ways I really like the smaller festivals a little more. Pictures after the jump and if you have kids – and your kids like Lego bricks – it is worthwhile to overwhelm them at this event. Be careful – there are deals to be had and you could end up with a trunk full of Lego – just like I did.
EDIT: Forgot to mention – DC Universe Super Heroes is coming in 2012. I assume from the looks of it that means video game but it likely means some awesome sets as well featuring Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman (they may look like this).
I like Star Wars. I like Darth Vader. I like Kenny Powers.
A NSFW mash-up of Kenny Powers and Darth Vader? Awesome.
Click here to watch the video and enjoy – don’t show George Lucas or it may end up in the next version of the Blu-ray X-ray 3D Hologram version of Star Wars.
