Travis sent me this and it is great.
I don’t think there is a ton that needs to be said here just watch the video and enjoy.
I found the images to the right when I was putting together the post. I wish I could get a real Storm Trooper helmet like that.
Wait – did you say was? Don’t get me wrong – I would hug a wookie but the latest controversy over what’s being added to soon to be released Blu-ray edition of Star Wars has me concerned. More CGI? Yoda is being replaced with a cartoon? New dialog for Darth Vader? Obi-Wan says what? New eyes for ewoks? and worst of all? Greedo still shooting first.
Don’t think any of this means I won’t watch it. I mean… it is still Star Wars. I just miss the feel that came with a movie that had a real set. Like the one the right and the pictures linked here.
I think I have a certain attraction to these pictures because it looks like it would be an awesome parade float. Or maybe a certain float building team could have made a cool Star Wars set. Either way both aren’t happening because of CGI and that is terrible.
BTW this post is the first using ifttt.com (If This Then That) which should echo this post to the new NOSVC Tumblr account. Why? Why not. I’m not sure if I really need a Tumblr account in addition to the blog but like a lot of things I am going to test it out and try it anyway. We’ll see how ifttt and Tumblr work and report back soon.
There is a lot going on down on Jones Street lately. Depending on where you are standing you might think it is a good thing – or – you might be concerned.
If I were working at the General Assembly I would be concerned. Why? Across the street and a short half block away someone is constructing the Galactic Empire’s “ultimate weapon.” Remember what happened to Alderaan? Better vote the way Emperor Purdue suggests you vote if you get my drift.
All joking aside I am fairly certain this isn’t really the infamous Death Star. (Fairly certain.) I think it is part of an expansion of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Either way it is cool architecture in downtown Raleigh – something we really need. So please – stay away from the exhaust port and don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed.
More pictures after the jump and we’ll take more when the “Death Star” is completed.
UPDATE: “The centerpiece of the Nature Research Center will be the SECU Daily Planet, an immersive, three-story multi-media space that will link virtual to real nature and be the site of live programming on breaking science news. At regular intervals during the day, scientists will present to NRC visitors using the cutting edge technology and media of the SECU Daily Planet and its 40-foot, high-definition screen.” – SOURCE

Before Blue Milk, before Ewok Jerky, before that frog thing that Jabba eats, before even Yoda’s stew, the main food of the Jedi was popsicles! Of course, a true Jedi made their popsicle holder themselves. Most Jedi used juice to make their popsicles, as it was healthy and nourished the mind and soul, but some preferred alcoholic beverages. These souls became the Sith (named after a brand of Alderaanian vodka), and you know the rest. It’s time to make yourself a treat from long, long ago with your very own Star Wars Lightsaber Popsicles!
This and more cool stuff here.
LEGOPalooza 2011 is going on this weekend at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill. It is sponsored by NCLUG (North Carolina Lego Users Group) and is a free event. They had a lot of interesting and unique displays and Lego compilations. I was particularly impressed with the two very large Star Wars dioramas of Endor and Hoth.
This was a nice event – some repeats from the previous Brick Magic event but that wasn’t terrible. The lights in the room were terrible. It was an unfortunate mix of poor lighting and not enough. The images didn’t come out as well as I would have liked and Cara got several of the better ones that were taken of the large pieces. Maybe this year’s Brick Magic will be better suited for taking pictures. (Put it on your calendar May 7-8, 2011.)
More pictures after the jump…
